Butler County commissioner candidates offer view on drilling tax vs. fees

Butler County government and local municipalities have received millions in impact fees on unconventional gas wells from natural gas drillers.

Local leaders have used that money in ways big and small, making desperately needed repairs to roads and bridges, buying police vehicles and even upgrading the pool in Alameda Park.

In 2014, the county's 57 municipalities received a total of $2.7 million in impact fees, while county government received another $1.7 million.
